Let me start off by saying, unless you want to cry miserably, don't read this book. Heck, don't even read this review, as you'll get tempted to read the book. It's at your own risk, if you can handle tears. In this book, 15 year old Charlie (last name not revealed) is trying to deal with the death of his friend, Michael, who committed suicide. In the book, he writes letters, trying to cope.
A little summary:
In this book, 15 year old Charlie (last name not revealed) is trying to deal with the death of his friend, Michael, who committed suicide. In the book, he writes letters, trying to cope.
He's kind of a misfit. Well, a wallflower.
"He's a wallflower. You see things. You keep quiet about them. And you understand." ~ Stephen Chbosky
He meets two people a grade older, Sam and Patrick, and they become great friends. He develops a love interest for Sam. Anyways, Sam, Patrick, and Charlie hang out all the time.
Basically, to sum it up, this book deals with bullies, sex, being gay, smoking/ drugs, being a misfit, drama, and so much more. Honestly, it's too hard to talk about this book, there's just so much that happened.
My review:
This books deals with hard topics to talk about, like the ones mentioned above. Bullies, being gay, smoking, being a misfit, drama, and so much more. I couldn't get through the book without having horrid memories of what had happened in my life. But it was so beautifully written, that I cried. The movie was great too, just not as good as the book. I wish there was a book two, but it'd be too hard to beat book one. It has a great lead to it. It hooks you in right in the first page. Great job, Chbosky. You did a great job.
Note: This book may not be suitable for readers under the age of 12/13.
My review... *drumroll please*
5/5 stars! It's hard for a book to get a full 5 stars from me, but in this case, it did. It was great, and I'm so thankful for whomever gifted this to me. I don't remember, hehe.
Average rating: 4.5/5 stars
Final Verdict: Now I know why this is a bestseller! :)
